How do we live healthily and economically? This was the title of a series of films made from 1926 onwards. Ernst May participated in an advisory capacity. Following this question, which was fundamental for the "New Building", the Historisches Museum Frankfurt, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus in 2019, embarks on an urban laboratory in the settlements of the New Frankfurt, which were created under Ernst May and the actors of the New Frankfurt in the 1920s.

The guiding question that moves the exhibition makers is: How do people live? It addresses the present and future of housing conditions in the estates. We want to ask about the usefulness of the ideas of that time for today. What has remained of the reform movement of that time? What does life look like there today? What new utopias can there be for socially just living, a "New Frankfurt" in the future?

The project is roughly divided into three phases: Research and workshops with urban lab participants in the run-up to the 2018 exhibition, main exhibition from May 2019 and future workshop in summer 2019.
