Elisabeth arranges to meet men every Wednesday under the pseudonym Winterrose, whom she contacts through newspaper advertisements. From a park bench, she observes the hopeful candidates who show up for the rendezvous at the café across the street, checking their visual fitness through binoculars - peppered with relentless and vocal comments and anecdotes about previous meetings. Unfortunately, the solitary amateur literary man and pensioner Anton, who has chosen this very bench for reading for years, feels very disturbed by Elisabeth's excited stories before and after their, mostly miserable, rendezvous. He would rather continue to read his newspaper and observe the mating behavior of the ducks - he knows them all by name. The repartee is not long in coming and a curious love affair begins. And that's not all - the two are joined by a gardener, who adds to Elisabeth's stories with his dry comments and life wisdom, and neatly turns up the leaves. A charming chamber play on an open-air park bench!
