Gangster watch out, crime is no longer worth it! Because 00 Schneider, the most brilliant investigator in Germany, is back and makes sure that our streets become safer again. And that's a good thing, because a particularly perfidious villain is currently up to no good: The chain smoker Jean-Claude Pillemann (Rocko Schamoni), called the lizard, causes fear and terror with the attack on a tobacco shop, the theft of a chicken and immoral assaults. In order to put a stop once and for all to the sly criminal with his caustic spit, Roy Schneider (Helge Schneider) interrupts the work on his memoirs, takes ingenious shortcuts when buying a washing machine with his American aunt (Tyree Glenn jr.) and throws himself into hot fiddles for undercover investigations. Even nasty toothache and a runaway gorilla cannot stop the ingenious Commissioner from putting the evil pill man behind bars…
"00 Schneider - Im Wendekreis der Eidechse" (Tailor - In the Tropic of Cancer of the Lizard) marks the long overdue cinema return of Commissioner Schneider after his successful "Hunt for Nihil Baxter" in 1994. Those who feared that 00 Schneider lost his very special nose over the years or exchanged his own investigation methods for something of his own and those who were afraid that his spiritual father Helge Schneider gave up his predilection for the bizarre in favour of more mass humour can be reassured. Because Schneider's latest work is also an absolutely weird potpourri of absurd ideas, wonderful senselessness and unrestrained idiotic jokes. The plot as such is only rudimentarily recognizable and actually serves only to loosely link individual episodes.
Whoever asks for a deeper meaning here will surely soon be close to despair. If, for example, a gorilla (or a person in a very bad gorilla costume) goes into a café and presses the face of an elderly lady into a piece of cake, this has just as little significance for the plot as Schneider's visit to a dentist, who prefers to put his hand on his assistant than on the teeth of his patients. Even if, after buying a new washing machine, the commissioner and his "aunt" take a shortcut that leads him over impassable paths to snow-covered heights, or if a horde of vacuum cleaner representatives makes a run at the helpless citizens of the city, one should not expect that there will be an explanation or a resolution for such processes.
Helge Schneider's humour is very special, which applies again and again to costumes, equipment and masks in his films. This is no different with "00 Schneider - Im Wendekreis der Eidechse". It is not enough to know a little bit about Helge Schneider and to find "Katzeklo" quite funny to laugh about the hunt for Jean-Claude Pillemann. You really have to love Helge Schneider, his music, his books and his films - only then does the genius behind a comedy that rejects all the rules of mainstream cinema open up to you. For fans, the cinema return of 00 Schneider is therefore absolutely worth seeing. For viewers who haven't seen a Helge Schneider movie yet and don't fully understand his very own style, this could be the longest 96 minutes of their lives!
