Paul (Florian David Fitz) and Toni (Matthias Schweighöfer) are best friends since their childhood. But as much as they like each other, the two of them are in constant competition with each other. That goes so far that shortly before an important deal with their start-up company, they enter into an insane bet: For 100 days they want to do without all their beloved things - from smartphones to espresso machines to the latest sneakers. Only one item may be retrieved per day. If you lose, you have to share your share of the profit from the deal with the company's employees. It quickly becomes clear how dependent the two are on their material things - and how fragile their friendship seems to be in the face of such a challenge…

"100 Things" is the second collaboration between Florian David Fitz and Matthias Schweighöfer after "Der geilste Tag". Again Fitz was behind the camera as a director and is also responsible for the script. As in the previous comedy, "100 Dinge" isn't just about simple laughs, but also about essential themes, which are wrapped up in some moments of deepness. The result is an entertaining cinema fairy tale with some very funny, but also some touching moments.

However Fitz shoots like already with "The horniest day" a few times over the target. So some of the gags unfortunately turn out to be a bit too flat to be convincing, while they are also served too over-twisted. But also in the emotional scenes there is the feeling that there was too much put on a scoop every now and then. That's a pity in so far as the staging often works really well. As a viewer you can not only laugh heartily, but also really think about whether you really need so many material things to be happy.

With a little more courage for subtlety and some more consistent script decisions, "100 things" could have been an absolute hit. Thus the whole thing has a slightly naïve aftertaste. That in itself isn't that bad, if you look at the movie as a light feel-good fairy tale. As such, it works really well thanks to the good chemistry between the actors. But in view of the really good basic idea behind the story, there is still the feeling that there would have been a lot more in it. Nevertheless: This charming comedy deserves to be seen!
