The sixteen-year-old twins Heiko and Roman (DieLochis) have made it: On YouTube the two are real stars with millions of clicks and enthusiastic followers. Now they want to get off to a flying start on the big live stage. The excitement before the first concert is great, any distraction is undesirable. But just now Jessy (Milena Tscharntke) Heiko turns her head. What the brothers don't know: Jessy is a bitch of fame who Heiko only wants to use to become famous herself. She pretends to take care of her sister Bella (Tara Fischer), who has allegedly been in a wheelchair since a car accident. And Heiko falls for this lousy game and neglects the preparations for the concert. Therefore there is only one way out for Roman: he has to embarrass his brother in front of his new flame in such a way that it immediately drops him like a hot potato. But that is easier said, than done…
With over 1.7 million subscribers DieLochis belong to the completely large German YouTube stars. The twins from Riedstadt in Hesse have built up a broad fan base in recent years with comedy and music videos. With some of their songs the brothers even made it into the German single charts, which was followed by the first live tour at the beginning of 2015. After this success, a feature film was of course the next logical step. And as with all their projects, DieLochis were heavily involved in the development of this project. Not only do they play the leading roles, but they have also been involved in the directing. The result is the comedy "Bruder vor Luder" (Brother before Luder), which is clearly aimed at the young fan community.
The second YouTube film of the year after "Kartoffelsalat" (Potato Salad) is certainly not a film made for critics - and certainly not for viewers older than 16 years. The not exactly stunning acting talent of the popular twins is therefore not only pointless, but also not really appropriate. Because whoever goes into this film wants to see DieLochis - and then it doesn't matter if they don't play very well. And also some other weaknesses are gladly forgiven there. I still remember all too well the cineastic embarrassments I liked at this age. Nevertheless, despite all understanding and consideration of the target group orientation, it simply can't be said with a clear conscience that "Bruder vor Luder" would be a good film.
Besides the completely unimaginative story and embarrassing jokes from the pubertal moth box, the film tugs at the nerves of the audience with foreign shame appearances by some established actors (Ludger Pistor or especially bad: Petra Nadolny), extremely clumsy sound effects or senseless guest appearances by other YouTublers. But it gets especially bad when Bella confesses why she takes part in her sister's nasty game and the story tries to offer something like "depth" for a short time.
Mag be that some children are so blinded by their love for Roman and Heiko that they really have fun here. And even if it hurts, so be it granted them. It may also be that DieLochis really have talent in a way. But "brother before bitch" is unfortunately no convincing proof for it. Who can laugh about diarrhoea, erections in the swimming pool or about chicks, beside which even the students from "Fack Ju Göhte" look like future Nobel Prize winners, will not be bothered by the many weaknesses of "Bruder vor Luder". But those who expect at least really funny humor and don't want to bathe 90 minutes in infantile clichés should avoid this work. Only worth seeing for hardcore Lochis fans!
