Although Gru (spoken by Oliver Rohrbeck) quit his job as a super villain to take care of his three adoptive daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes as a loving father, his life has not really calmed down. He has to organize children's birthdays, fend off obtrusive admirers or take care of his Minions who have been retrained to make jams. Actually, he's got enough on his mind and he's not happy when he's hired by a secret organization to save the world from a new super villain. Especially since the agent Lucy Wilde (Martina Hill), who gets on Gru's nerves, is supposed to support him. But the longer he is on a manhunt with Lucy and his Minions, the more joy he develops in using his rogue talent for the good and notices that Lucy is not as annoying as he thought…
2010 Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin delivered one of the biggest surprise hits of the year with "I - Simply incorrigible". The animation adventure around the super villain, who discovers his heart through three little girls, thrilled with its mixture of biting and sometimes amazingly subversive humor, lovable characters, a lot of heart - and with the Minions. Gru's yellow assistants quickly became the real stars of the film, who soon conquered the Internet with various clips and short films. After the animation fun with relatively low production costs of 69 million dollars worldwide over 540 million dollars could be brought in, a continuation was quickly decided thing. The danger was, of course, that the sequel would degenerate into a mere copy of the debut. But fortunately Renaud and Coffin, who once again took over the direction, knew how to prevent this.
Naturally, particularly popular set pieces from Part 1 are again prepared in slightly varied form here. And again and again there are quotes directly from the first part, which one could of course accuse the film of lacking originality. But all in all "Ich - Einfach unverbesserlich 2" is a consequent further development of the concept established in the first film, a completely new story with beloved characters. The humor is a bit less biting than in the previous one. Only rarely does something like satire hide under the already funny surface. But that doesn't mean that this sequel is any less funny. Those who already laughed heartily in the first movie will be guaranteed to get their tears flowing with laughter many a time.
The Minions are of course to blame for this again, with their very special sense of humor, their crazy ideas and with a very special romantic vocal interlude for extremely funny moments. But also the wonderfully cute Agnes and the relationship between Gru and agent Lucy are full of comedic potential, which Renaud and Coffin fully exploit. In addition, there are countless little ideas, which enrich the story and keep the fun factor of the movie at a very high level.
A funny story, a real gag firework, the lovely characters, some nice 3D effects and the very special humor, which already made part 1 so successful, make "I - Simply Incorrigible 2" a great movie experience for the whole family. But for those who could not get much started with part 1 (there are supposed to be people who couldn't laugh at the Minions!), the corners of their mouths will remain as motionless as if Gru had frozen them with his freezing beam. But for all others: Absolutely worth seeing!
