|Originaltitel:||John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum|
|Laufzeit:||Ca. 130 Min|
|FSK:||From 18 years|
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) has a huge problem: He is expelled from the contract killer community and a $14 million bounty is on him. So it's no wonder that really every professional killer is on his heels. There is only one chance left for him: he must fight his way through to the High Council and there ask to be taken back into the community. He knows he's gonna have to pay a high price for this. But on his bloody way to the High Council, he has no idea how high it will actually be…
added, the story of "John Wick - Chapter 3" is even thinner than that of its predecessor. In addition, the parallel world of the professional killers takes on almost grotesque characteristics. If part 2 was already too "unrealistic" for you, you might be tugging your hair here in some moments. Moreover, it also has to be said that some fighting scenes, however great and original they may be choreographed, are too long and therefore also seem a bit tedious in the long run. Even hardcore fans are put to a real test of patience here a few times. But in the end these well-founded criticisms have little effect - especially when you can get involved with the world of John Wick. Because then this third part is also a great pleasure, which can come up with high show values, great action and a good dash of irony.
The predecessor should definitely be seen, because chapter 3 directly follows its events. John Wick has little time to prepare to be released for launch. In these first minutes of the film, even before the one-hour lead granted him by Winston (Ian McShane) expires, a spectacular duel takes place at the New York Public Library. This scene alone is almost enough to make the movie completely worth seeing. A wild and very bloody chase follows through New York, in which director Chad Stahelski demonstrates a creativity that many contemporary action films unfortunately lack.
However, after a too long sequence in which Halle Berry plays a central role, the first signs of fatigue become noticeable. Now it can no longer be concealed that the story itself doesn't give much. A cool look and first-class fighting sequences simply can't replace an emotional core. Unfortunately, this third part is completely missing. No question: In the first 45 minutes "John Wick - Chapter 3" is the best action film of the last years. After that, unfortunately, it becomes apparent that the whole thing degenerates into an orgy of violence, which is magnificently staged, but in contrast to the first part doesn't have a dramaturgical core anymore.
Nevertheless, the movie is a complete success and part 4 is a thing that has been decided long ago. Hopefully, the makers will try again to tell a story, that prevents the audience from being completely blunted in the face of the desolate scrapbooks - just like Gareth Evans did with "The Raid 2". The bottom line here is: a very strong start that ends in total fatigue. But just for the beginning there is one thing: Worth seeing!
