Content: TV-Junkies really live in a great time. There are Oscar winners romping about in television series, award-winning directors shooting elaborate feature films for streaming services and top-class screenwriters creating fascinating worlds and telling grandiose stories. You'd think television was never as good as it is today. Fortunately, there is Oliver Kalkofe, who takes the pink glasses off our noses and confronts us with the bitter truth that there are also frightening abysses between the highlights that TV viewers have to look into again and again. In his popular satire format "Kalkofes Mattscheibe", Oliver Kalkofe has been making sure for well over a decade that we are made aware of the abuses on German television in an entertaining, biting and merciless way.
The fourth season of "Kalkofes Mattscheibe REKALKED" is again dedicated in the usual malicious way to all self-promoters, Z-celebrities suffering from self-overestimation, talentless musicians, unscrupulous astro-charlatans or unspeakably embarrassing TV formats. In his sometimes very rough and direct comments, Kalkofe reveals the complete nonsense of the shows, scripted reality formats, commercials or contributions he targets. In the 15 episodes of this season and the big review of the year 2015, he pays special attention to the jungle camp, the RTL summer house, Germanys Next Top Model or the wedding of Daniela Katzenberger. But also so-called YouTube stars get their fat away this time again. Here Kalkofe shows particularly clearly how audaciously the very young target group of these "stars" is being tricked by pretending to be completely false in authenticity.
With some clips you may not believe that this was really sent or that there are actually people who like something like this. In fact, there is one good thing to say about such TV or YouTube formats: Without her, there wouldn't be Kalkofe's Matt Screen. And in view of this once again very amusing fourth season this would be a real loss for the colourful TV landscape. And that's the only reason to hope that despite the many great series and shows that are currently being staged, the trash will be continued so that Oliver Kalkofe doesn't run out of material for his delicious blasphemies. Absolutely worth seeing!
Picture + sound: Picture and sound quality are at a good level for a TV comedy programme. The picture is clean, the sharpness is tidy and the colours are powerfully mixed. The Dolby stereo sound transports Kalkofe's biting comments clearly and powerfully on the speakers, whereby it is also not noticeable that the whole thing takes place very centrally and has only little dynamics to offer. Good.
Extras: The DVD box of the fourth season again has a lot of additional material to offer. All episodes are accompanied by amusing and enlightening comments by Oliver Kalkofe, directors Lasse Nolte and Daniel Krauss, post producer Jens Menzel and chief viewer Oliver Mohme. Every comment here is absolutely worth listening to! In addition to the comments, there is also a detailed Making of of for the season (approx. 53 min.), in which Kalkofe is shown how he transforms into some well-known TV personalities and how the individual episodes are implemented.
As a special bonus, there is a very detailed and highly interesting interview with Oliver Kalkofe on Fernsehkritik-TV (approx. 124 min.) on the fourth disc, as well as his appearance on Pasch-TV (approx. 111 min.). Here you can watch Oliver Kalkofe and his comrades-in-arms playing the TV edition of Trivial Pursuit for almost two hours. Doesn't sound very entertaining, but it is. Especially for TV junkies who know a bit about older TV food, this special is absolutely worth seeing because of the advice!
Fazit: "Kalkofes Mattscheibe REKALKED" is also in the fourth season again biting TV satire of the finest. When Oliver Kalkofe deals against Trash-TV (and meanwhile also against YouTube), it's evil, politically not always correct and sometimes very rough - but it always hits the nail on the head. The DVD box presents all the episodes of the fourth season, the big annual review and over four hours of extras worth seeing. Kalkofe fans should therefore not miss this box. absolutely recommended!
