The events of the last months have left their mark on everyone - including the superheroes who fought against Thanos. For Peter Parker (Tom Holland) the upcoming school trip to Europe is the perfect opportunity to simply hang his Spider-Man costume in the closet and be a normal boy for a few days. And maybe he can finally confess his feelings to his secret love MJ (Zendaya). Too bad Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is putting a spoke in his wheelhouse. Because he is already waiting for Peter in Venice to recruit him for a new job: He is supposed to help the superhero Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who comes from a parallel world, to destroy terrible creatures that could destroy the whole planet…
"Spider-Man: Far from Home" has the difficult task of taking the MARVEL universe to the next chapter after the mega-success of "Avengers: Endgame". On the one hand, the film has to deal with the dramatic events that change everything. On the other hand, it should also open up a whole new page in the success story of the franchise. The film just manages the former with flying colors. He succeeds in consistently and credibly tracing how the world has changed through the events in "Endgame" and how much Peter still has to struggle with the heavy loss he has suffered. At the same time, the film quickly finds its way back to the humorous lightness that had distinguished "Spider-Man: Homecoming".
Jake Gyllenhaal's Quentin Beck alias Mysterio is a very charismatic superhero who fits perfectly on Spider-Man's side. But of course the makers have some surprises in store, so that the cards will be shuffled again in the course of the story. When the whole thing is heading towards the big showdown, another CGI overkill threatens. But even though the action is a little bit too much of a good thing, the consistently high entertainment value of the movie isn't spoiled by this. Because the mixture of fantasy action and comedy, of fast-paced moments and quieter scenes and of such moments, in which it becomes clear that behind the superhero mask is just a normal teenager, make this second solo appearance of Tom Holland as Spider-Man so successful.
In this case it's also really worth staying seated at the credits, because just when you think the story is over, the whole thing takes a whole new turn through the mid-credit scene, which will change Peter Parker's life forever. The spider man's next appearance can't really come soon enough.
"Spider-Man: Far from Home" convinces with good actors, wonderfully humorous ideas, great effects and the good chemistry between Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal. There are a lot of really good laughs, well implemented tension, but also some deeply human moments, which give the movie a certain charm. Yeah, the wheel's not reinvented here. In the end, the film is just more of what MARVEL has so successfully served us in recent years. But let's be honest: if you're so well entertained, it's not tragic if the franchise isn't given completely new impulses. Therefore after more than two very entertaining hours there is also a very clear one: Absolutely worth seeing!!!
