The Dream-Team Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have teamed up again to finish their so-called Cornetto trilogy after "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz". The result of the renewed cooperation of the three is called "The World`s End" and is again a wonderfully bizarre comedy, but the fan spirits could divorce a little - also because of wrong expectations.

In the beginning, however, the enthusiasm of all spectators, who also want the two predecessors, should be equally high. The story begins with Tunichtgut Gary King (Simon Pegg) going out to drum up his old clique. Since they wanted to celebrate their graduation in one night in 1990 with the legendary booze tour "Die goldene Meile" through all pubs of the small town Newton Haven, but failed shortly before the home straight in "The World`s End", there is only one dream for Gary: he wants to finally conquer the "goldene Meile" once and for all. But while he's still the same kid he was over 20 years ago, his former buddies Andy (Nick Frost), Oliver (Martin Freeman), Steven (Paddy Considine) and Peter (Eddie Marsan) have long since developed into responsible adults. And so it takes a very special trick to lure the  Four to Newton Haven and persuade them to a revival of the booze tour. But even after the first few beers there can be no talk of a relaxed evening among friends. The relationship between Gary and Nick is too tense, too many things from the past are still unclear. But then something happens that makes this journey into the past more than just an attempt to save old friendships - because suddenly the fate of all mankind is in the hands of the five men…

that "The World`s End" in direct connection to "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" is, besides some very nicely interspersed similarities (Cornetto, jumping over fences), especially stylistically very obvious. Fast, sometimes somewhat absurd cuts used for the consumption of beer are one of the unmistakable trademarks of this very special trilogy. But also dramaturgically, this movie fits in perfectly with its predecessors, as this story also takes a bizarre turn after a rather ordinary beginning, which culminates in brute force. Despite the many similarities, there are also some very clear differences that some fans might be bothered by.

The biggest difference is the relationship between the characters Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play. Although the two of them didn't play typical heroes in the previous movies, but always embodied childheads, egoists and losers, the sympathies of the audience were always certain to them, especially since there was always an infectious friendly chemistry between them, which made their characters so endearing despite all their weaknesses. It's different here. Gary is amusing, no question, but he is anything but a real sympathizer. Friendship between him and Andy hasn't existed for a long time, which leads up to the last 20 minutes to the fact that the film lacks the spice that is usually created by the interaction of the two actors.

In addition, the actual threat that the former drinking companions have to face and the epilogue that concludes the film offer two additional points on which the spirits are guaranteed to divorce. So "The World`s End" in contrast to its predecessors will certainly not be able to arouse collective enthusiasm. However, the viewers for whom the movie works will have a lot of fun despite some small weaknesses. This very special end-time comedy is full of wonderfully bizarre moments, biting wordplay, a surprising guest appearance and grotesque fighting and violent interludes, which are responsible for many an eruptive laughter. Woe betide the one who just drank a lot of his cola.

"The World`s End" is the weakest part of the Cornetto trilogy. But the wonderful play of the actors, where Eddie Marsan and Martin "Der Hobbit" Freeman deserve a special mention, the perfect symbiosis of editing, music and comedic timing as well as the sometimes wonderfully absurd humor make this end of the world a really fun and absolutely worth seeing affair! On top a cool blonde!
