What do the LICHTER Filmfestival and the Markt im Hof in the Sachsenhäuser Brückenviertel have in common? Both are projects born of passion, which within a very short time have advanced to cult status and have noticeably enriched Frankfurt's cultural and scenic landscape. So it's only natural to get together for a particularly tasty project! For the inner-city offensive "Ab in die Mitte" proclaimed by the state of Hesse, the aim of which is to revitalise inner-city centres, one applied together with the project "essenkochenfilme" and was promptly voted state winner among all applicants. With the financial support of "Ab in die Mitte" the filmic and culinary world trip can now start for the first and hopefully not the last time.
From 15 to 24 September films with culinary themes will be shown in the Markthalle. The programme includes films from Germany ("Soul Kitchen"), the USA ("Kiss the Cook", "Jiro dreams of Sushi"), Denmark ("Babettes Fest"), Taiwan ("Eat Drink Woman") and France ("Couscous mit Fisch"). There will also be a children's programme with the films "Ratatouille" on the Saturday of the market and "Ab durch die Hecke" on the Sunday of the district, at 12 and 14 noon on the weekend. The documentary "10 billion - How do we all feed ourselves", which is absolutely worth seeing, certainly occupies a special position in the colourful programme. It doesn't really whet the appetite for eating, but after which it is still possible to discuss food waste or alternative production and distribution methods on the market in a lively way.
Before, during and after the film, a night market takes place in the yard. Here special dishes are offered, which should fit if possible to the current film. The visit isn't only supposed to be worthwhile because of the movie, so that even those guests who maybe don't get one of the 120 seats don't have to go home disappointed. The "Spätmarkt" offers numerous seats and lots of umbrellas - just in case it should rain. No matter if you want to sip homemade limo, taste one of the beer creations of "Braustil", experience the new interpretation of traditional cuisine by "Grandma Gerta" or enjoy delicious Italian sandwiches from the recently opened "Fame" from the Wallstraße - the market in the courtyard offers not only during the small festival, but every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. pure enjoyment in a really nice ambience.
