Even the good Goethe knew to enjoy: "No pleasure is temporary; for the impression it leaves behind is lasting." And who are we to resist the wisdom of this great Frankfurter? While half the city and - it feels - the entire surrounding area feast on almonds and mulled wine at the Christmas market, we prefer to feast on fine chocolate and exquisite wine. Our poet was also the best advisor here, for he said: "You know what we need: We want to sip strong drinks."

Inspired by Goethe in this way, I set off on a gourmet tour, equipped with the favourite tips of my acquaintances.

Not far from my apartment is the Bornheimer Weinkostladen. With its huge selection of international wines and whiskey, I feel in good hands and always well advised. It is enough to point out a wine that I like to drink in a certain price range and the owner tells me two delightful alternatives to try. Okay, before we continue feasting, I must first come out with a confession. I like to spend my holidays in Belgium. And since then, I've fallen head over heels for the chocolate there. I'm afraid so. J Especially at Christmas time I like to sneak over to the Roßmarkt to shop for business friends or to enjoy the truffle "Mathilde".

I see already, this is degenerating into a confession post. You see, I am also a fan of Belgium's Queen Mathilde, for whose wedding these truffles were created: dark chocolate hand-garnished with a royal "M". A royal delight! Need I reveal now that I never leave the store without a pack of champagne truffles? *sigh* This melt-in-your-mouth delight is truly incomparable. For me, feasting on chocolate is really only surpassed by making it. A whole pot full of liquid chocolate? Am I the only one who likes these chocolate fountains? If not, then a visit to "Michis Schokoatelier" is highly recommended to everyone. At the front of his shop, tasty treats with whole orange peels, for example, tempt you, while the open counter offers a view of how they are made. I'm not a cooks' maid at all, but I'd love to work in the kitchen here! Maybe I'll finally book a praline seminar there..I'll be happy to share my results then too J If only virtually...Where is your favorite place to feast?
