Frankfurt celebrates: 25 highlights of German Unity
Frankfurt celebrates: 25 highlights of German Unity

"Where were you when..." We know that question when events affect all of our lives and a day is suddenly unforgotten. It is certainly the case with November 9, the day the Berlin Wall came down, when Hungary took the courageous step of allowing GDR citizens to leave. Then, 25 years ago, came unity. For the quarter of a century Frankfurt is banging the drum. From 2 to 4 October, the city is coming up with something special and everyone can join in the celebrations at various places. Where recently the Queen stopped by, next weekend not only Gauck, Merkel and Co. will meet. For three days the big citizens' festival will be celebrated in the central city centre on the Römerberg, the Paulsplatz, the Zeil and on the Main. Harbingers ahead: the green traffic light men, who populate the Römerberg for a few weeks.

That the 25th anniversary of unity is honored here with us is only due to the fact that since the reunification of each state is the venue, which holds the presidency of the Bundesrat. So in 2015 this is now Hesse. For those who do not believe in coincidences but in compensatory justice for the patient, no city is better suited for this than the prevented capital Frankfurt am Main, which after the 2nd World War first had to give way to the small, pretty Bonn, only to be beckoned after unification, that city far to the east of the country. Attention: gallows humor :-)

While the first, German democracy movement points a huge finger at our city. So if you want to show visitors around on the Unity Weekend or stroll with family and friends yourself, here are 25 highlights from the official program:

  1. Blue Light Mile. Because the name alone makes you curious.
  2. Open Sunday for all shopping fans
  3. Evening staging: Frankfurt in the dark is always an experience in view of the light scenery. Between Eiserner Steg and Holbein Bridge
  4. Time travel German Unity at Paulsplatz
  5. Sports mile at the Konstablerwache, who wants to overcome borders, must sometimes stretch quite a bit. Do not miss the sports and dance bet on 3 October!
  6. Rock the Hauptwache with Balkan Pop and the Bucovina Club
  7. Forum Plenary Hall, interactively experience the work of the Bundestag and vote. "We are Bundestag"
  8. At the Roßmarkt: symbolic handover of keys from Hesse to Saxony, to the Bundesrat presidency. Because the Saxons can use all the support!
  9. Liebfrauenberg: video exhibition on 100 years of German history. Because we want to welcome refugees, if we have no idea about our country??
  10. Just travel back with exciting original film scenes.
  11. Service to the official ceremony in the Cathedral.
  12. Opera Square: Live broadcast of the service
  13. Opera Square II: Sarah Conner at the text soufflieren, so that nothing "scalds".

  15. Candle procession to the Römerberg: always homey.
  16. Metzlerpark: Gospel choirs, because singing together is just fun
  17. The "LichtKirche" stands for the hope and strength that inspires people to overcome boundaries and dare something new. On Saturday, apples will be distributed: exactly 9,125 pieces - for every day of unity for 25 years.
  18. Open air church service at the Schaumainkai. Unique opportunity for unique experience.
  19. Kinderland at the Museumsufer

On my <link http: oceanbluestyle.blogspot.de _blank>Blog, by the way, I told on October 3 about how and especially where I experienced the unification and the fall of the wall on November 9. How did you experience the unity. Where were you when the wall fell?
