24h Frankfurt - A day in the metropolis on the Main

Everyday life in a big city like Frankfurt often leads to the fact that the hustle and bustle is taken for granted and one rarely thinks about who is actually behind all the services that one consciously or unconsciously uses day after day or who does the work that makes life in the big city so pleasant. Moreover, on the surface it also looks as if Frankfurt, unlike New York, would eventually go to sleep and rest more or less idle. But of course this is really not the case. Because even when most of us are resting our heads on our pillows, many hard-working people are making sure that the city functions.

"24h Frankfurt - A Day in the Metropolis on the Main" looks behind the surface and shows people who, as a small but important part of the whole, ensure that the pulse of the city continues to beat steadily. Each hour of the day is dedicated to a particular person and their profession. For example, the reader can climb onto the roofs of the city with chimney sweep Natascha Günther, look over the shoulder of Jörg Greiser as he looks after rail passengers at the main station, taste freshly pressed cider with fruit grower Andreas Schneider, drive through the dark city with night bus driver Hans-Jürgen Freudenberger or go on patrol with police officers Dale Warzynski and Ilona Beck. There will also be an early morning peek into a bakery, a visit to the Niederrad combined heat and power plant or a trip to the Griesheim lock.

After short portrait texts on the first page of each issue, there follows a photo series of several pages on the people featured and their fields of work. The texts are compact but informative, the pictures offer a short insight into the respective daily work, often in direct context with the city of Frankfurt, of which one also gets one or the other new and unusual perspective shown here. The pictures of Tuesday Night Skating, for example, the evening visit to the Dippemess or the impressions from the Frischezentrum in Kalbach or from the traditional brewery Binding make "24h Frankfurt - Ein Tag in der Mainmetropole" a Frankfurt picture book of a very special kind.

The three authors Peter Knapp, Patrick Sitte and Daniel R. Schmidt have given with their look at a very normal day in the Main metropolis of the city of Frankfurt and its citizens one a beautiful, interesting and affectionate portrait that stands out in many ways pleasantly from the usual city portraits. A recommendable illustrated book for all who would like to experience the everyday working life in Frankfurt from a slightly different perspective and discover new sides of the city!
