The Societäts Verlag starts a new book series, in which each volume is dedicated to a Frankfurt district, which is presented in detail in words and pictures. "Die schönsten Streifzüge durch Frankfurt" takes a close look at the history, culture, leisure activities, culinary delights and celebrities of the individual districts. It will start with Sachsenhausen and Bornheim, followed by Höchst and the Nordend in autumn 2011.

SACHSENHAUSEN

By Andrea Möller and Andreas Flender

Sachsenhausen is probably one of the most famous districts of the Main metropolis, not least because of the many atmospheric pubs, but also because of the numerous museums. Andrea Möller and Andreas Flender take the reader on a beautifully illustrated tour of Sachsenhausen, which begins with a short excursion into the history of the district. The text never gets bogged down in details, but rather provides the most important information on the transformation from farmland to entertainment district, on important sights such as the Lokalbahnhof (local railway station) or the Sachsenhäuser Warte and tells how the devil himself was once outwitted on the Alte Brücke (old bridge).

The book also presents Sachsenhausen's most beautiful sights, including the Goetheturm (Goethe Tower), the Henniger Turm (Henniger Tower and brewery), the Steinern Haus (Stone House) and the Dreikönigskirche (Three Kings Church). The reader is then invited to get to know the cultural institutions of the district, such as the Südbahnhof music venue, the Harmonie cinema, the library centre, or of course the museums on the Museumsufer. The Städel, the Liebieghaus, the Film Museum, the Museum of World Cultures or the German Museum of Architecture are of course not to be missed. In addition to brief descriptions of the various institutions, the book also provides important information such as opening hours, address or Internet address.

Whoever is more drawn to the countryside will also get their money's worth. The two authors invite you to take a tour along the riverbank promenade, stop by in the city forest, where the beautiful Stadtwaldhaus is also presented, or take a break at the Jacobiweiher pond before following in the footsteps of the famous poet on the Goethewanderweg hiking trail.

Shopping opportunities, the most beautiful places to stop, whether classic apple wine pub or modern bar ambience, the most popular district festivals and leisure activities, but also curious and funny things around Sachsenhausen are presented here in an informative and entertaining way. The fact that such a colorful, traditional and culturally diverse district also had and still has some prominent residents provides material for another chapter worth reading.

After 143 pages it becomes clear how much Sachsenhausen combines tradition and modernity and offers its visitors a wide range of art and culture. It's a good place to live and enjoy - something this book really makes you want to do!

BORNHEIM

By Bernhard E. Ochs

Bornheim is clearly shaped by the more than three kilometers long Berger Straße. Here, life pulsates in the most diverse ways. From small cafes to traditional cider pubs to the most versatile shopping, there is hardly anything on Berger Straße that is not there. But "Bernem" is much more than just Berger Straße, as Bernhard E. Ochs' district guide proves. Beginning with what is probably the most important tip, not to visit Bornheim by car if possible, and the amusing introduction of Homo Bornheimiensis, Ochs also first embarks on a journey into the past. In just 12 pages, an entertaining and informative picture of Bornheim's history is drawn, topped off by the legend surrounding the "Rund-Um-Bild" of 1825/50.

Sights such as the Uhrtürmchen, the Bürgerhaus Bornheim or the Fünffingerplätzchen, the beautiful parks such as the Günthersburgpark or the Ostpark, but also the various opportunities for shopping and dining, the reader will find clearly and informatively presented, enriched with numerous appealing illustrations. And finally the author takes the Bornheimer club world, the festivals and district celebrities such as Vicky Leandros or Louise von Rothschild under the loupe.

The start of the "Beautiful Strolls through Frankfurt" can thus be called absolutely successful. The books in a handy format virtually invite you to (re)discover the city and make you want to take advantage of the multifaceted offers of the city districts. Informative and entertaining, just as a good district guide should be, this promising series presents itself, whose continuation will hopefully not be long in coming. Because the other districts of the Main metropolis are also versatile, rich in culture and sights. Just as recommendable for Frankfurters as for visitors who want to get to know Frankfurt with all its facets
