Even if Frankfurt only seems like a city of millions during the day thanks to the many commuters and almost seems village-like in some parts of the city after work, the city occupies a central position not only within Germany, but throughout Europe. The skyline, the financial centre, the airport, the trade fair or the railway station are features that make Frankfurt a "heart of Europe". However, the city so fondly called the Main metropolis has not only held this role for a few years. Rather, it is a crucial part of Frankfurt's history, which Günter Mick conveys in an entertaining and interesting way in his texts in the book "Frankfurt am Main - Herzstück Europas".

In the first part of the illustrated book, which has now appeared as a beautiful new edition, Mick therefore first takes the reader on a journey through the history of Frankfurt, which Wolfgang Lechthaler accompanies with his photographs of modern "Mainhattans". In the second part of the volume, some of the city's distinctive, significant and historic places, as well as its festivals and culinary sides, are then illuminated in more detail in words and pictures. Whether the Zeil, the cathedral, the Römer, the Palmengarten or the airport, whether the Museumsufer or the Dippemess, whether the skyline or the old town, whether MyZeil or the Goethehaus, the different facets of the city have been captured here in a very engaging way.

Wolfgang Lechthaler has captured some very atmospheric images with his camera, which show Frankfurt from a very appealing perspective, sometimes even somewhat surprising for connoisseurs, but always very attractive. Admittedly, when you walk past countless construction sites, demolition houses or in some way disfigured houses day after day, it is sometimes difficult to appreciate the beautiful sides of the city. "Frankfurt am Main - Heart of Europe" reminds us in a way that is well worth seeing and reading that these are indeed numerous and play a decisive role in Frankfurt's position within Europe. A really nice book, which can be warmly recommended to all Frankfurt lovers and all who want to become one!
