City guides about Frankfurt are numerous. But most of them, unless they deal with very special sides of the city, remain only on the surface in terms of information content and are limited to conveying practical, yet sober information. This often makes reading such city guides a rather dry affair. Fortunately, this is not the case with the book in which Annette Sievers has illuminated the many different facets of Frankfurt am Main.

On more than 400 pages, Sievers takes the reader on a journey through the Main metropolis, giving many useful tips on where to stay and where to stop, but also providing a comprehensive picture of the city's history and the atmosphere in the individual districts on the basis of ten tours, thus establishing the versatility of Frankfurt that makes this city so appealing. The history and significance of the cathedral and the Römer, a visit to the Kleinmarkthalle (small market hall), a stroll through the station district, a detour into the rich museum landscape or a look at the city's parks, gardens and small oases make this richly illustrated book a real treat. The book is not only aimed at newcomers to Frankfurt. Even long-established Frankfurt residents can find one or two insider tips here that show them completely new aspects of their city. This makes you want to break out of the daily routine in the city and rediscover Frankfurt with completely new eyes.

In addition to the very informative and well-researched texts, which are written in an informative but also charming and entertaining way, the book provides a lot of useful information about opening hours and directions to various institutions, to weekly markets or even to various tours through the city. Rounded off with a map atlas and traffic route map, hardly any wishes remain unfulfilled here. Certainly, there are some nice institutions missing, especially in the cultural tips. It is a pity, for example, that with the steadily dwindling number of cinemas in the city, Frankfurt's newest cinema, the Astor Film Lounge, is only mentioned as a side note. And when it comes to theatres, one also misses smaller, non-municipally funded cult institutions such as the Theatrallalla or the PUT Eventbühne, while three whole pages are devoted to the Schauspiel. But since the book makes no claim to absolute completeness, but would like to give the reader selected tips from the colorful and extensive offer in terms of history, culture, shopping, relaxation, going out or feasting, and this intention has also implemented first-class, this is really just complaining at a high level.

For all in all, "Frankfurt am Main" is not only an extremely useful, but also a versatile, extremely comprehensive, exciting, amusing and instructive companion through the Main metropolis, which never conveys its wealth of information too dryly. For every Frankfurt lover and everyone who wants to discover the city and its multifaceted offerings for themselves, absolutely recommendable!
