Ten years have passed from the architectural competition to the opening of the new Frankfurt Historical Museum. The renovation of the old building and the planning and construction of the new building not only added a large area to the museum. The orientation and thus the structure of the permanent exhibition were also completely redesigned. The result is a "Frankfurt Museum" that is exciting and extremely entertaining to discover for citizens of the city as well as for tourists.

To mark the opening of this city museum, several publications have come out at once, dealing with different parts of the museum - the snow globe, for example, or the library of the ancients. But there is also a general work that serves as a perfect guide to the museum. The book covers the history of the museum as well as the new building. The individual parts of the building are presented before the reader is guided through the permanent exhibitions. Through the interesting textual contributions and numerous illustrations, not only are the advantages of the new museum architecture made clear, but also the versatility of the museum's offerings.

The contributions are informative and not too sprawlingly written. Not only are the various thematic areas of the permanent exhibitions presented in more detail, but also highlights of the objects on display. A lot of background knowledge is provided in a pleasantly clear manner, which makes you want to visit the museum again right away with your newly acquired knowledge.

For as well done as the book is, it is only a supplement, not a substitute for the actual visit to the exhibition. Because the really successful museum architecture in connection with the partly very old or simply beautiful exhibition objects can be described in a book, but not really made experiencable. As a companion or also as a testimony to the successful reorientation of the museum, however, the book is in any case absolutely recommendable!
