"Hai-Alarm am Müggelsee" is the first production of Müggelfilm, founded by Sven Regener and Leander Haußmann in a beer mood. The two filmmakers have staged a pure fun film in which they not only acted as directors, but also as producers, screenwriters, composers and actors. With a good-humoured ensemble of actors, who did not work on the project for money, but out of pure pleasure and solidarity with the directors, Regener and Haußmann have staged a string of absurdities, bizarre and unrestrainedly silly gags, which are not oriented towards mass taste and are therefore extremely refreshing. Those who like this very special humor will love "Hai-Alarm am Müggelsee". The others will only shake their heads in wonder or even develop an extreme dislike for this film.
For fans of comedy, Regener and Haußmann have come up with another very special fun. It is not uncommon for a film to be accompanied by an audio book. And even screenplays are published now and then as an accompanying publication. A screenplay reading as an audio book, on the other hand, is a real novelty and, as the authors themselves put it, somehow audacious. Because reading aloud not only the dialogues, but also all the stage directions (picture X: Müggelsee-Außen-Tag... or picture Y, writing on black: writing on black "Text Z") is not only unfamiliar to inexperienced listeners, but also downright disturbing, especially at the beginning. Is that supposed to be funny?
The answer is quite clear: Yes! If Regener and Haußmann didn't care about the habits of mass taste in the film itself, they consistently follow through with their idiosyncratic style in the audio book release. For example, they have dispensed with a clear distribution of roles and instead read out the individual roles in a ping-pong system, i.e. exactly as it happens. This really takes some getting used to, but after a while it's a lot of fun in a very absurd way. It's just this absolute negation of any expectation that is deliciously amusing here. This may only resonate with a small niche audience that recognizes that the two creators have quite simply put their own personal fun first in this project.
Whether as a film or a read script, "Hai-Alarm am Müggelsee" is quirky, unconventional and filled with absurdities. If you can get into this very special humor, you will enjoy this very special audio book. But those who prefer it ordinary and expect a conventional audiobook, may want to voluntarily plunge into the Müggelsee after a few minutes.
