66 Favorite Places and 11 Bank Secrets

An Unusual Discovery Tour

There are almost countless books that take the reader to sometimes more, sometimes less well-known places in Frankfurt am Main. It is difficult to find a new, rather unusual approach and to present not only the well-known sights. Bernd Köstering and Ralf Thee have succeeded very well in their contribution to the series "Lieblingsplätze" by Gmeiner Verlag. In "Von Bänken und Banken in Frankfurt am Main" the two authors present their 66 favorite places in the Main metropolis, with very well-known locations such as the Eiserne Steg, the Goetheturm, the Alte Oper or the Frankfurt Zoo alternating with smaller insider tips such as the Orange Peel, the Schwendlersee, the bookstore "Wendeltreppe" or the still quite young Experiminta ScienceCenter. The places are presented with full-page illustrations, condensed information such as address, Internet presence or worthwhile localities in the vicinity, as well as with very entertaining accompanying texts.

Divided into the sections "Early and Today", "Art and Culture", "Food and Drink", "Nature and Green", and "River and Lake", the book offers the right tip for almost every occasion. No matter whether you want to take a walk along the banks of the Nizza or through the Palmengarten, whether you want to learn something about our forest in the StadtWaldHaus, whether you want to enjoy a kebab from the "Dönerschiff" on the banks of the Main, or whether you want to stroll along Obere Berger Straße and finish off the evening at the Orange Peel on Kaiserstraße, you will find the relevant information and suggestions here. It is clear from the accompanying texts that Köstering and Thee have one thing in common above all else: a love of the metropolis on the Main.

And they express this in a particularly charming and original way in a concluding chapter. They take a seat on eleven benches (and similar seating) at various locations in the city and from here reveal eleven Frankfurt secrets that are certainly not known to every Frankfurter and above all bring newcomers a few new sides of the city and its history closer. Whether the Rosemarie Nitribitt murder case, the achievements of zoo director Bernhard Grizmek, the oldest residential building in the city center, the legendary Frankfurter sausages or the secret of why Frankfurt was not elected the federal capital, all this is illuminated in this part of the book briefly and concisely, but very entertaining and informative.

"Von Bänken und Banken in Frankfurt am Main" is a book that will take not only those readers who are not yet particularly familiar with Frankfurt, but also long-established Frankfurt residents on an entertaining and very worthwhile discovery tour of the city. So anyone who enjoys visiting places they already know, while also discovering new sides of their city, should definitely let the two authors guide them to their favorite spots. Recommendable!
