Höchst is the fourth volume of the book series "Die schönsten Streifzüge durch Frankfurt" (The most beautiful walks through Frankfurt"), which has only belonged to the Main metropolis since 1928. Even today, many residents of Höchst regard their district as an independent city in its own right and tend to look to Frankfurt with disdain. For many, Höchst was once just the site of the paint factories, which also had a huge impact on Höchst's life and character. Now that Höchst AG has abandoned the site, Höchst's face and image have also changed - and not for the best. Especially the area around the pedestrian zone lost more and more of its attractiveness and charm after the closure of the department store and some other locations. Although a lot of positive things have been achieved in this respect in recent years, Höchst unfortunately still does not have the best reputation.

However, this district - Höchster may forgive me for calling it that - has many beautiful corners and attractive sights that make a visit to Höchst worthwhile. Anyone who has ever walked through the alleys of the old town during a snowfall will know how charming this district can be. You almost feel like you're in a Charles Dickens novel. But also the old castle, the Bolongaro Palace, the banks of the Main, the Justinus Church, which is even older than Frankfurt Cathedral, the porcelain manufactory, the Höchst City Park, these are all reasons why Höchst is so attractive.

Many more have been compiled by Holger Vonhof in his book. Like the previous volumes, this work first discusses the district itself and its history, before going on to present sights, special places to shop and stop for a bite to eat, and cultural institutions such as the New Höchst Theater, the Valentin Film Theater, and the Jahrhunderthalle in more detail. A visit to the "green lungs in Höchst", a stroll through worthwhile inns or a look at the range of festivals and recreational opportunities are of course also on the agenda. And of course Höchst has also produced some well-known personalities, who are presented in detail in another chapter.

A very nice addition is also the section "Kurioses & Komisches", which leaves the reader with a smile from the book. So this volume is again a nice proof of the versatility of the individual Frankfurt districts on the one hand, but also of this beautiful book series on the other hand. Even if the volumes published so far follow the same structure, they are still very different in style - just like Frankfurt! Therefore applies also to this book again: Absolutely recommendable!
