The most beautiful walks through Frankfurt - Ostend

The series "The most beautiful walks through Frankfurt" goes into the next round. After Sachsenhausen, Bornheim, Höchst and the Nordend it goes in the latest volume towards "Ostend". Ralph and Susanne Haerth present the history of the district, invite you on a tour of the neighborhood, stopping at the green spaces, the various cultural institutions and, of course, the zoo. At first glance, the Ostend is truly not the most beautiful quarter of the Main metropolis. But the book makes it clear that it is a very diverse district, which is also currently undergoing major changes. The construction of the new headquarters of the European Central Bank, the new Main Bridge East, which will connect the Ostend with the Sachsenhausen Deutschherrenufer from 2013 or the new harbor park will not only significantly change the image of the Ostend, but also its importance for the city in the coming years.

But even now, the neighborhood has more to offer than it might first appear. From the Ostpark to the Literaturhaus to the Union, from the Riederwald to the zoo to the Mousonturm, whether it's recreation, shopping or culture, the Ostend offers diversity in every respect.

One name crops up in almost every chapter of the book: Gref Völsings. The traditional butchery with its beef sausage, which is popular beyond the city limits, is one of the most renowned companies in the east of Frankfurt. And so it is no wonder that the butcher's shop on Hanauer Landstrasse is one of the culinary meeting places in the area. The unbroken popularity of Gref Völsings sausage and the associated importance for the district must of course also be appropriately acknowledged in a book about the Ostend.
