In "Roswell" she was arguably the most attractive alien on TV, in "Grey`s Anatomy" she is the most sought after TV doctor and in "First Time" she was the most charming pregnant woman of the past cinema year. Now Katherine Heigl is coming to our cinemas again, giving the most adorable bridesmaid since romantic comedies began in "27 Dresses".

Heigl plays Jane, a New Yorker who has been a bridesmaid at 27 weddings. But Jane waits in vain for her own yes, especially since her secret love, her boss George (Edward Burns) only has eyes for Jane's sister Tess (Malin Akerman). As if that weren't trouble enough, Jane also has to deal with pushy reporter Kevin (James Marsden), a staunch wedding cynic who sees Jane, a 27-time bridesmaid, as the perfect story. When he seems to develop feelings for the object of his story, chaos finally spins out of control.

"27 Dresses" runs from start to finish along the all-too-familiar lines of screwball comedy, as brought to perfection decades ago by stars like Doris Day and Rock Hudson. Director Anne Fletcher, who made her rather dubious debut with the shallow dance flick "Step up", doesn't take any chances with her well-behaved production, perhaps offering viewers something new and surprising for once. So "27 Dresses" could easily be dismissed as a trivial comedy that will be forgotten very quickly. But the film has two trump cards up its sleeve that make the whole thing absolutely worth watching.

And those trump cards are Katherine Heigl and James Marsden. The two main actors are not only absolutely likeable and play themselves so easily into the hearts of the audience. The chemistry between the two actors is also spot on. Whenever Heigl and Marsden appear on screen, they make you forget many of the weaknesses of the production and the script and ensure that "27 Dresses", while not a masterpiece, has become fun worth watching.

Because the film is advertised as having been written by the author of the hit movie "The Devil Wears Prada", one might now expect a biting reckoning with the wedding craze here. But one looks for satire or wickedly amusing side-swipes here in vain. "27 Dresses" is cute, nice and harmless. Nothing more, but thanks to the main characters nothing less. Therefore: for friends of nice romantic comedies this film is well worth seeing!
