Movie: After Brigitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen) suffered a bitter election defeat over two years ago, she has seemingly turned her back on politics, With a high-paying job in business and a new relationship, Brigitte leads a contented life out of the public eye. The new phase in her life has also been good for her relationship with her children Laura (Freja Riemann) and Philip (Mikael Birkkjaer). But the more her former political opponent and successor as prime minister Jacob Kruse pushes her former party in the conservative direction, the more Brigitte's fingers tingle to get involved in politics again and counteract this unsightly movement. And at some point she just can't stay in the background any longer. She wants to get back into politics and lead Denmark back on the right path to a better future. With her former advisor Kasper Juul (Johan Philip Asbaek) now working as a presenter for TV1, Brigitte enlists the support of former journalist Katrine (Brigitte Hjort Sørenson), Kaspar's ex and mother of his child, of all people, for her political reboot. When her mentor Bent Sejrø (Lars Knutzon) and three other moderates break away from the party to make a fresh start with Brigitte, nothing seems to stand in the way of a new political career. But health problems, failed TV appearances, smear campaigns in the media and a powerful political opponent seem to end this chapter in Brigitte Nyborg's life before it has really begun.

Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften comes to an end with the ten rousing episodes of the third season on quite a high level. If the dramaturgical climax seemed already reached at the end of season 2, the creators have managed excellently to give the story in the final third act once again new momentum. Whether it's Brigitte Nyborg's new start in politics, bad news about her health or the changes at TV1, which push Torben Fries (Søren Malling) to his limits both professionally and privately, the third season completely reshuffles the cards for almost everyone involved. Only Kaspar Juul (Pilou Asbæk) comes up a bit short. Whereas in the previous episodes he was actually at the center of the action alongside Brigitte Nyborg, in the final episodes he is little more than a peripheral figure. He appears as the father of Katrine's child, whereby the relationship between the two, which broke up between seasons 2 and 3, seems to flare up only briefly.

In contrast, Kaspar's professional role as a television journalist is no longer as important as it was as Nyborg's advisor. Katrine, on the other hand, becomes even more central to the action here than she has been so far. As a working mother trying her hand at the political circus she's only ever reported on, she finds out how hard life is on the other side of the camera - and how complicated it is to build a new relationship in such a situation, too.

The series, created by Adam Price, puts a bit more focus on the protagonists' private lives in the final episodes, rather than on the political side of the story - even though the desperate fight for votes for Brigitte Nyborg's new party is, of course, the central starting point of the individual storylines this season. Thus, the series no longer quite reaches the quality of the really great season 1, TV entertainment at a very high level offers Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften but even now all the time. A thrilling, rousing and highly entertaining conclusion that more than does justice to this great political series. Absolutely worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: As with the two previous seasons, the final episodes also show up in good picture and sound quality. The image sharpness is especially in the brighter scenes on a pleasantly high level, although there are small point deductions in the darker moments in the detail representation. The audio, which is again in a stereo 2.0 mix, is primarily dominated by the dialogue, which is mixed powerfully and with good intelligibility. Good!

Extras: Unfortunately, there is also no bonus material for the conclusion of the series.

Conclusion: Borgen - Gefährliche Seilschaften says goodbye to its fans with a very good third season. The circle is closed satisfactorily. And even if the private lives of the protagonists are at times even more in focus than in the second season, Borgen is still one of the best political drama series of recent years, even in its final episodes. The great ensemble of actors and very good scripts make Brigitte Nyborg's fight to be allowed to play an important role in the Danish government seat Christiansborg Castle again, TV entertainment on a very high level. And although season 3 again has no bonus material to offer, in the end there is a more than satisfied: absolutely recommendable!
