Cinebrasil: Brazilian Film Festival at Filmforum Höchst

Cinebrasil: Brazilian Film Festival at Filmforum Höchst

(kus) From March 16 to 22, Filmforum Höchst will once again present the Brazilian film festival Cinebrasil. It offers an insight into the current, diverse film output of the largest Latin American country and presents films that have won awards at various festivals.

"Tudo que aprendemos - the violin teacher" tells of the healing and emancipating effect of music for the children of a favela. "O último drive-in - the last drive-in cinema" tells of the love of cinema as a son tries to save his father's drive-in cinema. "O lobo atraz da porta - The wolf behind the door" is a thriller and deals with the common fear of kidnapping one's children in Brazil. "Vidas partidas - Broken Lives" addresses the problem of domestic violence against women, which is very present in Brazil, in this case in middle-class circles. "Nise: O coração da loucura - The Heart of Madness" is the cinematic biography of psychiatrist Nise da Silveira, who resisted the electroshock method in the 1930s and broke new ground in occupational therapy.

To mark the 100th anniversary of samba, "O Samba - Marthino da vila and the Vila Isabel samba school" is on. The documentary follows one of the most famous composers and singers of samba and musica popular, Martinho da Vila, as he introduces his samba school in Rio de Janeiro. In the documentary "5x Chico", five filmmakers follow the course of the Sao Francisco River, documenting the beauty of the Brazilian countryside and life in the different provinces along the river.

The program was created in collaboration with Cinemanegro/Sidney Martins and is supported by Bread for the World and the Cultural Department of the Brazilian Embassy Berlin.
