CONGO CALLING celebrates Hesse premiere

CONGO CALLING celebrates Hesse premiere

The east of the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the poorest and most insecure regions in the world. Hundreds of Western aid workers are on the ground, eager to support the population. Among them are Raul, Peter and Anne-Laure. They are highly motivated and full of vision, but their situation raises fundamental questions for them. Raul, a Spanish-French scientist, finds that he is using the project funds to corrupt his colleagues, and that his study of the rebel groups is therefore in danger of failing. Peter, a German aid worker, retires after 30 years on the job, but sees no prospects for himself outside Africa. Anne-Laure, a Belgian, has left her job as an aid worker. She now works for a Congolese music festival and fights for a better future with her dissident friend and other locals. Three personal perspectives on how Europe and Africa live and work together - and the question: how helpful is Western aid?

The documentary by Stephan Hilpert will be in cinemas from 22 August. Before that, the filmmaker will go on a cinema tour, which will also take him to two stops in Hesse:

Wednesday, August 14, 2019, 6:30 pm in LICH, Kino Traumstern

Thursday, August 15, 2019, 8.00 clock in FRANKFURT, Mal Seh'n

Who wants to see the award-winning documentary in the presence of the director, should not miss these dates.
