1978 Indian gangster film Don was a huge success in its homeland, with lead actor Amitabh Bachchan finally cementing his status as a superstar. Almost thirty years later, newcomer Farhan Akhtar ventured to remake the cult flick, for which he was able to enlist Shah Rukh Khan as the lead actor. Don - The Game Begins was a huge success in 2006, not only in India, so that a sequel was quickly decided. Especially the German fans of Shah Rukh Khan could rejoice, as the star personally announced that a large part of the film would be shot in Berlin.

In autumn 2010, the capital was then firmly in the hands of drug lord Don for 43 days of shooting, whose return can now also be seen in Germany in the cinema. Don - The King is back initially brings the gangster in real trouble. After the drug lords in Europe have to fear that Don, after the Asian market, now also wants to stretch out his feelers to Europe, it is unanimously decided to kill him. However, a Don is not so easily eliminated. After escaping an assassination attempt, he makes a seemingly absurd decision: he turns himself in to the Interpol in Kuala Lumpur. His offer: for vital information that would lead to the capture of all his important business associates, he must be granted immunity. Since the investigators Malik (Om Puri) and Roma (Priyanka Chopra) do not accept the offer and simply want to see Don behind bars, the gangster has no choice but to break out and go into hiding in Europe. There, he plans a coup that will make his previous crimes seem like peanuts.

There's no question who Shah Rukh Khan's first appearance as gangster Don (<link https: www.amazon.de dp b001faresa ref="as_li_tf_til?tag=frankfurt-tip-21&amp;camp=1410&amp;creative=6378&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;creativeASIN=B001FARESA&amp;adid=0N8E6519S7N71JJVF6QY&amp;" _blank>Released in Germany only on DVD and Blu-Ray and HERE available), will also have great fun with this action-packed thriller. The story is fast-paced, the action sequences are worth watching and especially the fast-paced car chase through Berlin is really fun, even if it defies any form of realism. However, the song and dance interspersed at the beginning, which is obligatory for Bollywood films, takes some getting used to. Although this is also extremely noble and especially for fans of the main actor handsomely staged, but still seems somehow out of place.

Also with Shah Rukh Kahn as a cool villain, you have to make friends first. Especially if you are not really familiar with his previous works and Bollywood cinema as a whole, his performance comes across as rather unintentionally funny at times. However, since the film's overall style is geared more towards an international market, action fans who don't think much of Bollywood cinema can definitely enjoy themselves here. Granted, the whole thing is often completely over the top and the dialogues seem to be taken out of a gangster movie cliché manual, but all in all Don - The King is back is solidly made entertainment cinema, which despite its length hardly has any boring moments to offer and with its high show values and fast-paced action scenes is really fun to watch. Therefore: not only, but especially for all fans of Shah Rukh Kahn absolutely worth seeing!
