It's been ten years since clownfish Marlin enchanted millions around the world with his search for his son Nemo. The Oscar-winning animated film from animation powerhouse PIXAR, along with many other awards, is a perfect blend of stunning visuals, amusing gags, lovable characters and a beautiful story. Even after ten years and multiple viewings, it's just fun to follow Marlin (voiced by Christian Tramitz) and the slightly forgetful fish lady Dorie (Anke Engelke) on their adventurous journey from the Great Barrier Reef to Sidney, where Nemo has landed in a dentist's aquarium. Shark Bruce, turtle Crush, pelican Niels, the overzealous cleaner shrimp Jacques or the voracious seagulls have long been cult characters that fans have grown fond of and are always happy to revisit.

Before a sequel hits cinemas in 2016, the tenth anniversary of the original may now first be celebrated with a really successful 3D conversion. This one is coming to cinemas first for a brief guest appearance before its release on Blu-Ray. And that's exactly where it belongs. Because Finding Nemo 3D is a real feast for the eyes, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the wonderful deep sea world that Andrew Stanton and his team have created. And that just works better on the big screen than in the comfort of your living room at home.

However, the film doesn't play with the typical 3D effects that just jump out at you. There are very few of those here. Rather, the three-dimensional image manages to add visual depth to the action, making the vastness of the sea almost tangible. It's just beautiful to look at, but it doesn't really make the film any better. Because Finding Nemo is just all-around fun for the whole family that doesn't really need 3D to be any more appealing. The ten years have passed the film by almost imperceptibly. Technically, as well as in terms of the story and its implementation, it has a pleasant timelessness that is sadly lacking in many contemporary animated films in particular. Only in the German dubbing of the sharks Hammer and Hart it becomes clear that the time of the then so popular comedian duo Erkan & Stefan is long gone. Their catchphrases seem badly dusty and, after all these years, even less funny than they already were. It's clear from this that it's never a good idea to hire short-lived popular artists for dubbing and that it's better to rely on professional and really good voice actors.

But this is truly whining on a high level, because overall Finding Nemo is and remains a masterpiece of modern animation, a wonderful family film that proves that you can make movies for the little ones that the grown-ups can also be quite wonderfully entertained by. For all those who have so far only seen the clownfish on the TV or after ten years in the cinema once again want to dive into the enchanting sea world with all its lovable characters, applies to this successful 3D conversion: absolutely worth seeing!!
