Content: He's back! Since he commented on Premiere between 1994 and 1998 in the once as a radio format started satire series the everyday TV madness in a biting, ironic and very accurate way, Kalkofes Mattscheibe is absolute cult. Oliver Kalkofe's very special way of scrutinizing TV content with wonderfully vicious parodies and politically incorrect commentary has annoyed many a star and producer, but never fails to make fans laugh heartily. After the end of its run on Premiere, the show found a new home on ProSieben in 2003. But in 2008 it was over again. Fans of the format now had to console themselves with various DVD or CD releases and occasional Internet videos. But since 2012, Germany's TV criticPapstGott-Nr.1 is finally back to practice in Kalkofes Mattscheibe REKALKED again media criticism of a very special kind.

Because in a time in which TV is dominated by scripted reality formats, astro shows, Z-celebrities and casting shows, the world simply needs an Oliver Kalkofe, who exposes all the trash for what it really is. Whether as Harald Glöckler, Costa Cordalis, Astro TV presenters Lorelei and Luke, as Bettina and Christian Wulff or simply as Oliver Kalkofe, when the media terminator gets going, there's not a dry eye in the house. Whether he comments on the shepherd's song of farmer Heinrich from Bauer sucht Frau, takes the Bachelor and the ladies vying for his favor under the magnifying glass, wonders how a format like We love Loret could make it on TV or who buys gruesome hit CDs on QVC, he speaks in his shamelessly open way so many viewers completely from the soul.

Even the advertisements for the Apotheken-Rundschau or Carglass, RTL II reports on nude campers, the Markus Lanz interview with Helmut Berger, the children's hour on the Christian channel K-TV or an investigative report by RTL on the question of whether women can suffocate men with their breasts are not spared Kalkofe's sharp-tongued media criticism.

Naturally, Oliver Kalkofe could be accused that his very frank words, which not infrequently go below the belt, on the surface yes also serve a rather low level. But behind the raunchy facade there is not only damn honest, but also very intelligent media criticism, which is extremely unmasking due to the very direct language. And let's be honest: the way shopping channels sell low-noise bedding, AstroTV offers karma advice or Viva advertises things like the Babyname generator simply can't be commented on with gentler words.

Although it would be nicer if TV was just so good that a show like Kalkofes Mattscheibe didn't have to exist anymore, it's nice to see that Oliver Kalkofe has now returned with his award-winning format in his usual biting quality after a few years of TV abstinence. And for this there is then also an absolutely deserved: worth seeing!

Picture + sound: The picture and sound quality is on a good level for a TV comedy show. The picture is clean, the sharpness is decent and the colors are powerfully mixed. The sound, which is in Dolby Stereo, conveys Kalkofe's biting comments clearly and powerfully on the speakers, although it's not a bad thing that the whole thing is mainly very central and has little in the way of dynamics to offer. Good!

Extras: The DVD box has plenty of additional material to offer. In addition to amusing spots against illegal downloads and animated menus, there is an audio commentary with Oliver Kalkofe and Marc Stöcker for each episode. These commentaries are a real enrichment, because on the one hand they are very informative, but on the other hand they are extremely amusing and entertaining. It is simply fun to listen to the two men in their relaxed and very interesting chat. For Kalkofe fans it is therefore worthwhile to watch the individual episodes again with commentary.

The third DVD has even more extras to offer. It starts with the great review of 2012 (approx. 58 min.), which can also be viewed with an optional audio commentary. Two Best-Of episodes (15 + 14 min.) are also on the program. A Making of (approx. 57 min.) shows how some scenes of the season were staged. Two recordings of Kalkofes Gernsehclub are also very amusing. The Christmas special recorded on Christmas Day (approx. 14 min.) amuses with an appearance by Uncle Hotte and a really delicious gift exchange. And also the joint appearance with Achim Mentzel (approx. 15 min.) has many a good laugh to offer.

In total, therefore, a really good additional offer, in which fans can have their pleasure for a long time. Very good!

Conclusion: Kalkofes Mattscheibe REKALKED continues the tradition that Oliver Kalkofe started first on the radio, then from 1994 also on television with his Mattscheibe, in the usual high quality. Television is constantly coming up with new absurdities and sinking to new levels, so Kalkofe is far from running out of material for his biting commentaries and wonderful parodies. The first half of the first season of the latest incarnation of the series features 17 shows, each just under 15 minutes long, as well as plenty of amusing bonus material that offers real added value and purchase incentive for fans. Absolutely recommendable!
