Adultery, unrequited love and dangerous passion - these themes are always popular in French cinema. Such is the case in the quiet romantic drama "Mademoiselle Chambon", good proof that French filmmakers in particular are masters of this genre.

Jean (Vincent Lindon) leads an inherently perfect life. Whether in his marriage or his job, Jean is on his best behavior everywhere. But his everyday life, which flows along in calm channels, is completely derailed when one day he meets Mademoiselle Chambon (Sandrine Kiberlain), his son's substitute teacher. The taciturn man is immediately fascinated by the sensitive woman, and feelings are awakened in him that call his entire previous life into question...

"Mademoiselle Chambon" dispenses with too much drama. Everything that happens between Jean and Mademoiselle Chambon happens without big words, only with small gestures like longing glances or almost casual touches. Vincent Lindon and Sandrine Kiberlain transport the quiet passion between the craftsman and the teacher onto the screen in a tender, completely unobtrusive way. Embedded in a production that skilfully circumnavigates all threatening clichés, these portrayals unfold an emotional power that is transferred quite easily and almost completely unnoticed to the viewer as well.

A beautiful story without forced drama, restrained music and great actors make "Mademoiselle Chambon" a must-see for all lovers of French cinema. Absolutely recommendable!
