My Little Pony - The Movie

Busy Equestria! Princess Twilight Sparkle (voiced by Julia Meyen) is in the middle of preparations for the big friendship festival, for which even Songbird Serenade (sung by Sia) has announced herself. But before the big party can get started, a terrible attack occurs: the sinister Storm King has sent Tempest Shadow (Maite Kelly) and her minions to Ponyville to rob the kingdom's four princesses of their special powers. But Twilight Sparkle and her five best friends manage to escape. She knows that it is now up to her to save the world from the Storm King. To do so, she needs help from the fabled underwater kingdom of Seaquestria. But how are Twilight and her friends supposed to find this place, especially since Tempest Shadow is always hot on their heels?

With the colorful toy ponies of the series My Little Pony, toy giant Hasbro filled a real gap in the market in 1983. Mainly with girls, the little critters were so well received that they even got their own animated series starting in 2010. And since this has been running successfully for seven seasons now, it was only a matter of time before there would also be a feature film. And now the time has come: My Little Pony - The Movie comes galloping into our cinemas.

The work is colourful, gaudy and - maybe I already mentioned it - colourful. Add to that a bit of wry humor, lots of music, and an adventurous tale of friendship and a glittery, sparkly pony world. There you sit as an adult viewer just shaking your head and seriously wondering what the creators must have been smoking to come up with such ideas - and where to the aborted horn of Tempest Shadow you get this stuff. But - and that's the main thing - the target audience likes it. The film is tailored exactly to the needs of the fans. And since it's made just for them, you have to acknowledge - even if it hurts - that the mission of the makers has succeeded.

Although it has to be said that maite Kelly may perform the song in the credits well, but is completely unsuitable as a voice actress, any further criticism is a wasted labour of love, as the young fans are only concerned with one thing: Will I love the film if I like the series? And since the answer here is clearly yes, the bottom line is also a well-deserved: Worth seeing!
