Almost 20 years ago, the success story of The Lion King began, which went far beyond the cinema success of the animated film. In addition to several home movie sequels and millions of soundtrack CDs sold, the story about the little lion Simba also became a huge success as a musical. The songs Elton John wrote and sang for the film have long been classics of modern pop music, and the popular supporting characters Timon and Pumbaa are now among the most beloved Disney characters ever.

And so it was really no big surprise that The Lion King would also be converted to the attractive 3D look for its big-budget Blu-ray release. As with Toy Story 1 & 2, this Blu-Ray release was to be accompanied by a limited re-release in select theaters. But what worked as a nice marketing gimmick with Toy Story but failed to make quite an impression took unexpected shape with The Lion King in the US. The 3D re-release of the film was a huge success in cinemas and once again nearly 100 million dollars were flushed into the coffers.

And so the film also comes here at the same time as the
DVD, <link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050GDB3W/ref=as_li_tf_til?tag=frankfurt-tip-21<x>ampersand</x>camp=1410<x>ampersand</x>creative=6378<x>ampersand</x>linkCode=as1<x>ampersand</x>creativeASIN=B0050GDB3W&adid=001GDXRG156ZTDQ494P9& _blank>Blu-Ray and
Blu-Ray 3D release once again in theaters in three-dimensional visuals. And it's fair to say that the film still works and continues to excite the next generation of little fans. Among the children present at the press screening, especially loud laughter could be detected during the scenes with Timon and Pumbaa, but even the evil Scar still poses a palpable threat after almost twenty years. The music still invites you to sing along and many a beautiful scene still brings a smile to the faces of Lion King fans young and old after all these years.</x>

It's certainly not the best film from Disney, but without question one of the most popular. The only question is whether it is really worth going to the cinema again for this film or whether the home cinema version, which is cheaper in the end, is not enough. The answer is quite clear: it is worth going to the cinema. The conversion to 3D has turned out really wonderful in many scenes. The very sad scene with the panicked herd of wildebeest is even more magnificent in the three-dimensional version than it already was. And the landscape scenes are also full of wonderful details that really only reveal themselves on the big screen.

Whether in theaters, on DVD, or on Blu-ray, The Lion King is simply beautiful family entertainment. And even if the distinction between good and evil is kept a bit simple after all and the moral message is a bit thick in parts, not untypical for Disney, the story still works really well after multiple viewings. So, off to the cinema, glasses on and experience The Lion King in a whole new dimension. It's worth it
