Content: That was (fortunately) fast! After fans had to wait after season 4 in Germany over two years for new cases of the "jungen Inspector Morse", it now took only a little more than three months to wait for series replenishment. Who has not yet seen the fifth season, should jump now immediately to the next paragraph, because there is immediately a small spoiler. That's because the new episodes will be heavily dominated by the murder that rocked Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) and his colleagues at the end of season five. Endeavour has been demoted and transferred to the countryside, making it easy for him to isolate himself more and more from other people. He feels guilty about the death of his partner Fancy (Lewis Peek), whose killer has still not been caught. Things are also far from rosy for Thursday (Roger Allam). He lost all his savings to his brother and can't retire as planned. Because of this, his marriage is also in a huge crisis. In addition, after the dissolution of his precinct in the new Castle Gate Police Station, he has to deal with new colleagues who do not correspond at all to his idea of proper police work.

But with all this, of course, one thing remains the same: crime never sleeps. When Endeavour finds the body of a little girl, it brings him together with the demoted Thursday and his new superior DCI Box (Simon Harrison). And it quickly becomes apparent that even though he's just a lowly cop on the outside, Morse is still the brilliant investigator that Thursday has come to value so much, and not just as a colleague. And after this case is successfully solved, Endeavour's professional career once again takes a turn.

"Young Inspector Morse" offers in four new feature-length episodes once again a successful mix of exciting criminal cases and stirring stories of the protagonists around Endeavour Morse. Drastic changes resulting from a new professional environment, but also from a previous tragedy, ensure that the characters develop, sometimes drastically - but (at least at the beginning of the season) not necessarily in the direction they had planned. Thursday, for instance, was convinced he'd get to enjoy a well-earned retirement with his wife. Now, however, his money is gone, his wife is distancing herself from him, and he has to move on with new colleagues. Morse, on the other hand, is closing himself off more and more after the events of Season 5, which just happens to manifest itself in his already complicated relationship with the love of his life, Joan (Sara Vickers). While Joan seems to have slowly found her way in life (sans Endeavour), his plans for the future lie in ruins before him. But instead of opening up to her, he keeps pushing her back - and she no longer seems to believe that there will be a future together for them both again someday.

It's these consistent developmental steps that all the characters in this series go through that makes "The Young Inspector Morse" so successful. Even if you don't know the original series "Inspector Morse, Oxford Homicide" (1987 - 93) and therefore don't know where Endeavour's journey will take him, his professional and private development in the prequel series is extremely gripping - on a dramatic and emotional level. But an important part of the series are also the secondary characters, which are expanded in season 6 with the police officers Box and Jago, whose investigative methods so not at all correspond to what Thursday and Morse understand by good police work.

Suspense, drama and here and there a little lightening humor, combined with interesting characters - these are also in the sixth year the ingredients by which this successful crime series can stand out from the crowd. And so it is again for season 6: Friends of first-class British crime entertainment can "The young Inspector Morse" warmly recommended. Absolutely worth seeing!

Picture + Sound: Even if the series is constantly evolving, but one aspect remains largely the same: The image and sound quality of the DVD are also this time at a good to very good TV level. On a visual level, the sharpness of the picture, the colouring and the contrast balance all add up to a convincing overall picture. The 5.1 mix with the well intelligible mixed dialogues, a few small sound effects and the appropriately tuned music is also absolutely convincing. Good!

Extras: The two DVDs offer interested fans of the series a few short extras. DVD 1 offers interviews with cast & crew (approx. 17:12 min.), in which among other things main actor Shaun Evans has his say. Then on the second disc are three short featurettes (approx. 11:12 min.) about new colleagues Box and Jago, about the problems the Thursdays have to deal with this season, and about an affectionate homage to the cult puppet series "Thunderbirds". Especially the latter featurette is really absolutely worth watching!

Conclusion: The sixth season of the successful crime series "The Young Inspector Morse" brings many new impulses, through which the series and its characters develop significantly. Even if you have to get used to Endeavour's new moustache, the new episodes are extremely involving, exciting and also emotional, especially because of the changes. The double DVD offers besides the four new episodes in good picture and sound quality also some informative extras. All in all, so again a clear case of: Absolutely recommendable!
