Twice a year, a particularly traditional funfair takes place on the festival square on Ratsweg, with origins dating back to the 12th century: Frankfurt's Dippemess. Originally conceived as a trade fair, the focus was shifted to amusement in the middle of the 19th century. Since then, the Frankfurt Dippemess has been one of the most popular public festivals in and around Hesse, attracting several hundred thousand visitors each year. In addition to many culinary stalls, which of course also offer specialties from Frankfurt, there are always the latest and craziest rides to marvel at at the Dippemess. Unfortunately, the tradition, the "Dippemarkt" (pottery market) has shrunk considerably and only a few stalls still offer "Dippche".
In the fall, the focus of the Dippemess is traditionally on the quieter, family-oriented rides such as the chain carousels or car scooters. But even those looking for an adrenaline kick will definitely get their money's worth from the rich selection offered by the merchants and showmen. The Hip-Hop Fly giant swing, the roller coaster, the Ferris wheel, the Break Dancer or the children's bumper cars are all good reasons to pay a visit to the Autumn Dippemesse. Other highlights are the children's day on 13.09. and of course the gastronomic stands and summer gardens.
Visitors who come by car will quickly miss the fun, because parking spaces are from experience scarce. In addition, the redevelopment of the Ratswegbrücke complicates the journey by car. Therefore, it is absolutely advisable to come with public transport, then the Dippemess makes all the more fun.
