Content-wise, Dota Kehr takes the liberty on her album "Keine Gefahr" to sing plain language when needed. And the need exists when she is talking about refugees or environmental destruction. Furthermore, there are also mysterious songs on "Keine Gefahr" that open the door to associations. Songs between fear and courage, confidence and resignation. Songs that give you a tingling sensation like just before jumping off a ten-meter tower.
Because that's what it's all about: safety or adventurousness? Optimism or suspicion? And again and again the human fear of the uncertain - in a time and world in which there is no longer any place where one is sure of oneself. Dota Kehr looks for approaches and ways out, finds escape routes and vantage points.
Musically, Dota and her eponymous band, consisting of Jan Rohrbach, Janis Görlich and Jonas Hauer, have eluded any pigeonholing with their stylistic diversity. Music journalists will now have to add another term to the list they usually use to describe their bandwidth: "Jazz, Folk, Bossa Nova, Pop. With driving beats, explosive harmonies and artificial sounds, Dota creates a contemporary, at times avant-garde intensity. In contrast to the seething musical events is her unmistakable, crystal clear singing voice. Like a rainbow over a volcanic eruption.
