KAELAN MIKLA:
Fresh minimalist sound from Iceland's music scene: Kælan Mikla take us to unknown spheres and celebrate sadness. The young artists on drums, keyboard, bass and mic describe their music themselves as "no wave, but gloomy poetry punk". Fittingly, the three won a poetry slam in their native Reykjavik in early 2013 and have been making music ever since. A very unique poetics unfolds when the dark bass kicks in to the sometimes screaming vocals while the reverb effects unfold an apocalyptic atmosphere. On their self-titled album "Kælan Mikla", the newcomers roll out a carpet of sound on which one can wonderfully contemplate the beauty of sadness and the transience of life. Their performances, often reminiscent of art performances, wrap the audience in a blanket of somber melancholy, emotional blackness and a whole lot of Iceland.
