On Sunday, 29 June 2025, Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region will once again be dominated by sport, as the Mainova Ironman European Championship takes place here once more. Over 3,000 athletes from 65 nations will compete for one of the coveted qualifying places for IRONMAN Hawaii by swimming 3.8 kilometres, cycling 180 kilometres and then running a marathon. The race will start at Langener Waldsee before continuing on to the approximately 90-kilometre cycling route, which will be completed twice. The final marathon then leads along both sides of the Main riverbank for four laps before reaching the finish line on the Römerberg. The first finishers are expected to cross the line at the Römer at around 2:30 pm.

Traffic information
When the "iron men" and "iron women" are back on the road on Sunday, 18 August, there will be significant traffic disruptions in Frankfurt: Numerous lines will be diverted, interrupted or suspended.
S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains as an alternative
S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains will not be affected by Ironman, so they are a good alternative for passengers to reach their destinations, especially in Frankfurt's dense local transport network. Four additional connections will be offered on the S4 S-Bahn line in the direction of Langen and Kronberg in the morning. The underground trains are running according to schedule.

The race will also be broadcast by hr this year. Live coverage will begin at 6:15 a.m. on hr television from the start at Langener Waldsee. The programme will run until 3:45 p.m. In the evening, from 9:45 p.m., the final finish will also be broadcast live on hr television.
