On Sunday, August 18, 2024, Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region will once again be dominated by sport as the Mainova Ironman European Championship takes place here. Over 3,000 athletes from 65 nations will compete for one of the coveted qualification places for IRONMAN Hawaii by swimming 3.8 kilometers, cycling 180 kilometers and then running a marathon.
The race starts at Langener Waldsee before heading out on the 90 km bike course, which will be cycled twice. The final marathon then leads four laps along both sides of the banks of the Main before heading to the finish on the Römerberg.
The first finish at the Römer is expected at around 2:30 pm.

Traffic information
When the "Iron Men" and "Iron Women" are back on the road on Sunday, 18. August, there will be considerable traffic disruptions in Frankfurt: Numerous lines will be diverted, interrupted or discontinued.
S-Bahn and subway trains as an alternative
S-Bahn and subway trains will not be affected by the Ironman, so they are a good alternative for passengers to get to their destination easily, especially in Frankfurt's dense public transport network. On the S-Bahn line S4, four additional connections will be offered in the morning in the direction of Langen and four in the direction of Kronberg. The subway trains are running on schedule.

The race will also be broadcast by hr this year. Live coverage from the start at Langener Waldsee will begin at 6.15 am on hr-fernsehen. The program will run until 3.45 pm. In the evening, from 9.45 pm, the final finish can also be seen live on hr-fernsehen.
