Lights out, roll film: LUCAS #48 runs from 25 September to 2 October in Frankfurt and Offenbach outstanding cinematic art for children, teens and young adults. You will experience "Kids", "Teens" and "Youngsters". In addition to the competition films, LUCAS is showing classics of film history, short films for the very youngest and other programmes that are co-created by children and young people. One focus is on film discussions: filmmakers from all over the world talk directly to you about their work – in an accessible, understandable and inspiring way.
Participation is the name of the game: under the motto "Get involved!", you can moderate, participate in jury decisions, write film reviews, report as curators designing their own series. For the film industry, there are specialist conferences and panel discussions on film education and current trends in children's and youth films. The event is organised by the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum e.V.
A highlight for families is the festival Sunday on Sunday, 28 September, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the DFF – German Film Institute & Film Museum (Schaumainkai 41, Frankfurt). Under the title "Achtung Aufnahme!" (Action!), your children can try their hand at camera, lighting, stunts and special effects and learn about film professions. For all family members, Admission is from 9:45 a.m. Workshops can only be booked on site.
There will also be a programme for different age groups: The 10:00 a.m., the "Minis" short film programme will begin. At 11:30 a.m., the "Kids" competition will be followed by MARY ANNING (recommended for ages 7 and up) – an animated film about a girl who surprises the scientific world with her fossil finds. At 1:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., THE TREASURE HUNT IN BLAUMEISENTAL (recommended for ages 7 and up) begins, a film about identity, family secrets and friendship. In the afternoon, you can watch CHRISTY (recommended for ages 15 and up) from the "Teens" section – a moving story about two brothers who find each other again after a long separation. If you want to discover more before or after the screenings, the permanent exhibition on film history awaits you on two floors; the temporary exhibition "Unleashed Images" is recommended for ages 12 and up.u0022>recommended for ages 12 and up.
