On August 4, the time has finally come again. Then Frankfurt's Römerberg will be transformed into a beautiful, large festival square. For four days around the Paulsplatz, Römerberg, Fahrtor and along the banks of the Main with culinary delicacies, live music, fairground rides and a Ferris wheel will be celebrated according to centuries-old tradition. The origin of the Mainfest is not historically verifiable, but is generally fixed to the year 1340.
The old fishermen's festivals are precursors and models of the Mainfest, and therefore the historic Fischerstechen on the Main (on Sunday from 16.00) is also one of the absolute highlights of the festivities. The whole thing is crowned by a grandiose closing fireworks display on Monday evening (from around 22.00), which once again shows off the beauty of Frankfurt's Main embankment to its best advantage. Without a doubt, the Mainfest is worth a visit with the whole family. And the traditionally offered dishes like "Ochs am Spieß" also ensure that no one has to go home with an empty stomach. So: don't miss it!
