"Mainz Lights Up – The Late Light Festival" is the highlight event in Mainz.
From 25 to 27 September 2025, Mainz city centre will be bathed in an extraordinary glow. A series of buildings, from the Rheingoldhalle to Schillerplatz, will be illuminated and artistically staged. Various light installations and video projections, also known as "mappings", will shine a completely new light on outstanding buildings such as St. Martin's Cathedral, the Rheingoldhalle, the Mainz State Theatre, the mainz STORE on the market square, the Deutsche Bank building on the former Karstadt site and the Osteiner Hof on Schillerplatz. Different stories will be told on the facades of these buildings in impressive visual presentations, accompanied by emotional music. The video projections were designed by the "Time-based Media" course at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
Visitors to "Mainz leuchtet – Das Late Light Festival" can also look forward to a varied supporting programme in the city centre, organised by local businesses from the catering, retail and cultural sectors. Admission to this new event highlight is free of charge, and the organisers, mainzplus CITYMARKETING and the state capital of Mainz, invite numerous visitors to enjoy both the video projections and the offerings of the city centre's stakeholders.
