Mainz Market Breakfast – Schillerplatz new location

When Riesling is served and meat sausage is sliced again on Saturdays in Mainz, it's clear: the market breakfast season is beginning. From March to October, numerous Mainz residents meet every Saturday to drink wine and chat in the city centre. For more than 25 years, the market breakfast took place on Liebfrauenplatz next to the cathedral. However, due to the construction of the new Gutenberg Museum, the event had to move last year. Since then, the wine stands have been spread across several squares. A new addition this year is Schillerplatz. The city announced that Leichhof, which had been used previously, had proven to be less suitable. It had been very crowded at times, and the Gutenberg Express, which regularly crossed the square, had caused additional congestion.

This means that there will be three locations in 2026: Tritonplatz (7 March to the end of October), Fischtorplatz (7 March to the end of September) and Schillerplatz (14 March to the end of October). Wine will be served on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barriers at Schillerplatz and security personnel at all locations will ensure safety. The public order office will also be present.

An accompanying programme is once again planned at Tritonplatz, including in collaboration with 1. FSV Mainz 05. Club ambassador Dimo Wache will be helping to serve wine at the kick-off on 7 March. The Goldisch Meenzer Buben will provide musical accompaniment for the start of the season.

Tipp

It's worth arriving early – especially when the weather is good, as the seats fill up quickly. If you want to relax and enjoy a drink, it's best to get a glass and a seat in the morning.
