After the residents of the Opera Square had to put up with noise and construction fences in front of their businesses during the years of reconstruction of the Old Opera House, the mayor at the time, Dr. Walter Wallmann, had the first Opera Square Festival, then called the Lucae Fountain Festival, held in 1978 as a gesture of thanks. Since then, the Opernplatzfest has been one of the most beautiful, traditional and popular of Frankfurt's "new city festivals. An average of 300,000 visitors come here year after year to enjoy international specialties and live music.
At the 38th Opera Square Festival, versatility is again on the program - both culinary and musical. So there are live performances of, Roy Hammer, The Gypsys, the King Kamehameha Club Band or also financial crisis & Friends. In addition to these and many other highlights, there are over 30 booths offering epicurean delicacies from all over the world, samba walk acts, the daily musical entertainment of "Piano around the World" at lunchtime and much more. Rain or shine, there's no reason to stay away from the Opera Square Festival in its 38th year.
