Rabih Mroué and Lina Madjalanie regularly delight audiences internationally with pieces that straddle the line between performance, theatre and video art. The artist couple developed their new production with the visual artist and musician Mazen Kerbaj. In doing so, they describe "Borborygmus" as:
A gurgling, growling or squeaking sound in the stomach caused by gas flowing through the body.
A sound indicating deficiency or satiety
An unintelligible speech
An embarrassing but harmless situation
A play about all that and more
It seems to be about disappointment and failure, about three people, three artists, who have succumbed to the sad reality of our times. But actually the play is an attempt to grasp failure and, as an extreme form of resistance, to take it to the extreme. Fierce, yet without hate, Kerbaj, Madjdalanie and Mroué perform the state of the world today - as a black comedy, a requiem for the living.
