Daniel Kahn & The Painted Bird, the international Klezmer band around the Detroit-born musician, releases its albums on the renowned Berlin record label Oriente Musik. Political ballads from Kahn's pen oscillate fearlessly between revolution and alienation, the settings of poems and songs by Jewish authors, Bertolt Brecht, Heinrich Heine and Kurt Tucholsky, which he pays tribute to, thus perfecting the group's versatile repertoire. While drawing from the klezmer tradition, they combine it with punk, folk and singer-songwriting as idiosyncratically balladic as that of Tom Waits in a stylistically confident and experimental manner. So it's going to be a furious trip, with Yiddish folk songs, political cabaret, dance music and punk - beautiful and wild!
