SPIEGEL editor Takis Würger scored an impressive coup in spring 2017: his debut novel "The Club" was much discussed from the start and stormed the bestseller lists from a standing start. Clearly, forcefully and grippingly, Würger tells the story of the German orphan boy Hans Stichler in his book. He is invited to Cambridge by his aunt and is allowed to study at the renowned university, but in return he has to solve a crime and for this he has to enter a male-dominated circle. A few weeks later he arrives in England, joins the elite Pitt Club and meets young Charlotte, who helps him open many a closed door. But soon Hans has to ask himself: How far can I go to achieve the right thing? Würger combines a criminal case with a love story. He thrillingly creates believable characters and describes a world full of power and violence, snobbery and class differences, between male loss of control and boxing. A book that - also in view of the current #MeToo debate - hits the zeitgeist.
