Barney Silberman's erotic experiences have been limited almost exclusively to a marriage to his high school girlfriend Helma. Now the 47-year-old family man is finally looking to expand his horizons and experience something exciting for once in his life. But that's easier said than done! Possibly, the setting of his planned flings is inconveniently chosen (his mother's apartment).
But it may also be due to Barney's admittedly unfortunate choice of ladies that he doesn't quite get it on. In any case, viewers experience one awkward seduction attempt after another and are thoroughly amused when Barney proves to be the very last of the fiery lovers. Neil Simon's much-acted, intelligent play delights with hilarious dialogue, situational comedy, and just that dash of human tragedy that makes a really good comedy.
