Boxing as a fight for survival in a threatening situation: this is what the new play 'durchboxen' by Ulrich Meckler, which he is staging with Theater Prozess and in collaboration with Boxcamp Gallus. Four stories are performed as individual 'fights' of a boxing evening in succession, performed by actors and boxers of the Boxcamp of the Sportjugend Frankfurt: - The Boxing Squads in the Auschwitz-Monowitz concentration camp
- A Gym in the Black Ghetto of Chicago
. - An Afghan refugee in the Gallus sports camp
- Heavyweight boxer Charly Graf from Mannheim's Benz barracks. Boxing as a sport and as a spectacle: for some an artistic physical sport and for others a modern gladiatorial fight, for some a mastery of aggression and for others an atavistic outburst of uncivilized violence, a fascinating melange of underworld and underclass: boxing as a fight between one man and another has always been a subject of literature, film and theater. As a choreography of two protagonists clinging together in a serious game, it seems to be the most theatrical of all sports. Theater Prozess, however, reaches beyond this cultural anthropological and aesthetic consideration: it is interested in the social conflicts and historical events that emerge in the boxing of our time.
