Of course, Paul Heaton means the title of his song anthology ironically - on the other hand, one has to admit that the British singer and songwriter has given us some quite wonderful and highly successful pop songs. He did that as the head of The Housemartins and The Beautiful South as well as with his solo recordings or his later collaboration with ex- Beautiful South singer Jacqui Abbott.
He has now released a selection of these last November under the beautiful name "The Last King Of Pop". Starting with the first Housemartins single "Flag Day", through their uber-hit "Me And The Farmer", to The Beautiful South's "Manchester" and "Perfect Ten", to the newly recorded track "7" Singles" with Abbott, you'll find perfect pop by the dozen in this collection. Now Heaton has announced that he will be touring this summer and will also be making stops in Germany: Shouldn't be missed, if you also think that without Heaton, guitar pop would have been a bit more colorless.
