The RMJO was founded in January 2012 and since then has been playing big band jazz in the established 16-piece line-up with 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones, piano, double bass and drums. The musical focus is borrowed from the band books of Count Basie, Thad Jones / Mel Lewis and Bob Mintzer.
The repertoire is supplemented by pieces/arrangements by contemporary composers such as Maria Schneider, Mike Tomaro and Michael Philipp Mossman. Pieces are sought and found that have not yet been ground down by the mills of everyday big band life, have something special to show and give plenty of time for improvisation. The musicians come from Mainz - Limburg - Frankfurt - Giessen - Darmstadt, so the whole Rhine-Main- area, and meet for working phases in the melting pot Frankfurt.
