Maria, Agnes and Josefine are a well-rehearsed trio of ladies at the Abendrot senior citizens' residence. Extended bridge games, tea drinking, petty banter, discussions, and regular funeral services in honor of a deceased roommate are among the highlights of their sedate existence. Mary is good nature personified, covering up the inner sadness in her life with childlike naivety. Agnes suffers from acute forgetfulness, which not infrequently leads to laughter. She has always had a crush on Dr. Winkler, the unfortunate heartthrob of her youth. And Josefine? She looks back on her past acting career with wistfulness and pride and still attaches great importance to clear articulation. The routine of the day is promptly changed when a young, casually spoken nurse comes on duty. The petty criminal serves his sentence in the ladies' social service. At the same time, the charming widow's comforter Bruno moves in, gets the ladies' emotional world going and makes their hearts beat faster; but his passion goes in a completely different direction than expected. And when a mysterious relative announces her visit, the world of the "Golden Girls" finally spins out of control. Pure excitement is pre-programmed.
